A NUMBER of reviewers have likened his sound and poetic, heart-wrenching lyrical style to that of Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons. But Chris McDonald who grew up in Underwood surrounded by a family of talented musicians, now lives in London and plays in the band "Leo and the Seraphim" is back at Bartons for a rare Nottingham appearance.

Chris' solo album is a mixture of folk and soul with songwriting somewhere in-between Fink and Laura Marling with touches of Mumford and Sons, the ambience of Bon Iver and the vocal brush of The Fleet Foxes, Patrick Watson and Ray Lamontagne.

In his own words…

"For the last year 've been trying to write with new artists on the scene while working on my own debut album. I have had a great time writing with artists such as Liam Bailey. Liam is very talented and had a top ten single 'Blind Faith' with Chase and Status in 2011. I wrote 'It's Not the Same' with him which was no 1 in the playlist of one of LAs biggest radio stations KCRW over christmas. Zane Lowe commented that he 'loved' it and that it was 'proper, modern soul'. Live I've been gallivanting at venues such as the Half Moon, The Rhythm Factory supporting Pete Doherty, The Bedford, the Electro Acoustic Club and the Borderline. BBC radio 6's Tom Robinson was nice enough to say that 'Toast to the Saviours' was 'absolutely gorgeous' and said it was good enough to sit easily on a 'Ray Lamontagne' album. Listen and feedback my good people. I've now finished my debut album and am hoping 2012 lets more and more people hear it and come and see me play live…"
